Truly, Life in Righteousness: The Word is Your Life should be mandatory for every Christian who desires a deeper understanding of who they are in Christ, and beyond that, for every Christian who is ready to walk in that understanding at a deeper level. Billie Miller has done an extraordinary job of taking us on a journey to obtaining what is already ours...in Christ. Not only does he paint vivid pictures by using real life experiences and relevant stories, but he also incorporates practical, hands-on steps, at the end of each chapter, to help us apply what we've learned! Life in Righteousness, The Word is Your Life has truly been a blessing in my life. If you feel stuck in your relationship with God and you are searching for a way to get your life headed in the right direction without feel overwhelmed, Billie Miller has a way of explaining and teaching God's word in a way anybody can understand. Great Book no matter where you are in your Walk as a Christian

My story is the story of a prodigal daughter... and I really appreciate this book because it is helping me stay focused. I love how it is supported by scripture (as any good Christian book would). I encourage everyone to read this book whether you are new in Christ, a prodigal son/daughter, or whether you a more seasoned/mature Christian. This book also makes for a great supplemental reading book to have as part of a bible study group. The fact that the author made it available in Kindle is what made it extra special because now... it can go anywhere in the world at the click of the button. Kindle version almost impossible to use

The content of this book seems to be good, but my problem is that the kindle version has no table of contents, no index and no search function. It is therefore impossible to quickly find the section that you want or the topic you want - you have to page through the entire book until something useful appears. This is a fatal flaw for a reference book.

Great Book, Somewhat limited Kindel version

I am a physicist and work in a wide range of fields from nuclear to plasma to particle accelerators. I have used the Schaum's Mathematical Handbook for years (decades actually). It provides an excellent reference of handy formulas all in one spot. Sure I have bigger and nicer tables of integrals, but they are limited to tables of integrals and generally most everything I need to look up is in this guide. With modern computers and calculators the tables are probably anarchistic (I personally have never used them, ever!).

I got the Kindle version so I could have access to the book when traveling. In general the Kindle version is acceptable, but there are a number of problems with it. First, at least on the PC Kindle application the formulas are formatted oddly. In particular they are aligned to the bottom of the line not the center. This is just not the way formulas are displayed and makes them much harder to read. Spacing is often missing in aligned formulas. For example coordinate transforms. Typically space is added to align the equal signs for the different coordinates. In general these are missing, and often formulas are squashed against the braces. All of this makes them harder to read. Having the formulas formatted oddly will also contribute to errors, as the formulas mostly just do not look right, and the base line alignment can make formals with complex subscript/superscripts difficult to interpret.

Some of the formulas are encoded as text and some (generally the more complex ones) are encoded as graphics. This works OK as long as you don't change the font size. If you do the alignment falls apart, and different parts of a single formal may end up with different size fonts.

While I don't think the tables are very useful, they appear to be encoded as graphics so they will not change size, and you cannot select or highlight an entry in the table.

Another reviewer indicated the book as no contents or search features. My version certainly has a table of contents, which is linked to each section and is quite useful. Further the general Kindle search features work fine as long as you are looking for text (not math). This is generally what you would expect.

This is not to say that all the access features are implemented correctly. A digital version of this book should be able to take advantage of the ability to include links. There is a table of contents containing links to the sections, but there are no other links. For example, my version has a full index. The index does not contain page number, locations, or links so this is basically wasted space. There is also a sub-index in the table of special indefinite integrals (a section I use a lot). This sub-index to the various types of integrals is not linked (and does not contain page or location numbers), so you need to page though the text to find the correct region. The 1st edition (paperback) did not have this sub-index, but had banners separating the various types of integrals, which were much easier to find. (Don't have a copy of the 2nd edition with me right now.)

In summary I would highly recommend the Schaum's Outline, but I think the Kindle version is only suitable as a back or travel copy. The oddly formatted math, and lack of full linking limit what could have been a much better product. I would probably give 2 stars to the Kindle version and 5 to the paperback. The lack or proper formatting probably limits the usability of technical texts on the Kindle. Too bad as this could have been a good way to travel with reference material.

Good portable reference for professionals and graduate students

This is a pretty helpful Schaum's outline, in that most of the mathematical tables and formulas that an undergraduate math student would need are included. Material from geometry, calculus, differential equations, numerical methods, special functions and transforms, and probability and statistics are included. Plus, there are some examples of how to perform some types of calculations. There is even a section on calculating compound interest and the value of an annuity for those students of financial mathematics. Also, it is much easier than lugging around the infamous 2600 page "CRC Handbook of Mathematics and Physics." Of course, there are tradeoffs. This book has mathematical tables and formulas only, there are no physics equations.

Generally, if you are an undergraduate student in math or science, your required textbook will have all of the equations and tables that your instructor would expect you to have committed to memory for exams. Thus I am not sure if it is worth the extra cost to buy this book too. I think this book would be most helpful for someone who is out of school who needs their undergraduate mathematics tables and formulas condensed and in one portable book that can be taken to work and stored at the office, rather than carrying around the dozen or so math texts you used during your undergraduate career. It would also be helpful for someone going to graduate school in math, physics, or engineering who is expected to already know this material and therefore needs a handy reference.

Founded in the late 18th century by expatriate German Jews, the London-based House of Rothschild was within decades the largest banking enterprise in the world. Its principals controlled a vast portion of the industrial world's wealth--more so, Oxford historian Niall Ferguson writes, than any family has since--and as a result enjoyed tremendous political influence in the major capitals of Europe, counting as allies such important figures as Metternich and Wellington. That influence would provoke countless anti-Semitic tracts fulminating against Jewish usury and against the power of "Eastern potentates" in the empires of England and France. Although the Rothschilds were well aware of their power and not reluctant to use it, they operated fairly, Ferguson notes. For example, whereas lending rates in the textile industry, in which the Rothschilds got their start, were often 20 percent, the fledgling house charged 5 to 9 percent. Through shrewd, complex negotiations they helped promote peace and the beginnings of economic union throughout Europe.

Ferguson's sprawling history covers much ground and involves a cast of hundreds of players. Anyone interested in finance, European history or the rise of one spectacularly successful Jewish family will find the first volume of this history of the Rothschilds spellbinding. Equipped with unprecedented access to pre-1915 Rothschild archives, Oxford historian Ferguson begins the family history with Frankfurt merchant Mayer Amschel, but the real story starts with the arrival of the most capable of his sons, Nathan Mayer, in England 200 years ago. Each of Mayer's five sons was located in different cities?Paris, London, Vienna, Naples and Frankfurt. Combined with a mandated unity that kept the brothers remarkably close while excluding daughters, in-laws and strangers, this geographic dispersal gave the family's financial firm an unbeatable edge, despite Mayer's sons being of unequal competence. N.M. Rothschild is the one Ferguson chooses as his protagonist (his great-great-grandson suggested the project to the author). It was largely because of this Finanzbonaparte that from 1815 on, the Rothschilds were everywhere part of Europe?they dominated the international bond market; bought and sold commodities such as cotton, tobacco, sugar, copper and mercury; and influenced Metternich, Wellington, Queen Victoria, Bismarck, Gladstone and Disraeli. A British historian and political commentator, Ferguson is author of Paper and Iron: Hamburg Business and German Politics in the Era of Inflation 1897^-1927 (1995). He also edited and contributed to Virtual History: Alternatives and Counterfactuals (1997), a book that argues that the exploration of alternative outcomes to historical events is a legitimate form of scholarly inquiry. Here he returns to "historical reality" to trace the rise of the Rothschild financial empire. More than a dozen books have profiled the Rothschilds; but with the family's five branches and its vast wealth, power, and influence, there is much to chronicle. Each successive biographer has been granted access to more newly available family records, but Ferguson claims unprecedented and unrestricted access to all the surviving historical family and corporate documents. Included in the trove are more than 20,000 letters in four languages and 20 separate archives. Ferguson also enjoyed the cooperation of various of the Rothschilds who had opportunity to comment on his early manuscripts. So prodigious is Ferguson's definitive effort, it will require a second volume, expected next fall. David Rouse

An intriguing study of a famous and powerful family.

A fascinating quite detailed look into the lives of an important family as well as a chronical of the times from the end of the 18 century on. The Rothschilds made a unique and critical impact on the economic, social, and political development of the 19th century. The book is well researched and written and easy to read if one doesn't get bogged down in the numbers. I haven't finished this book yet and haven't started Volume 2 so this is preliminary review but I don't expect it to change.

FASCINATING ECONOMICS AND HISTORY

I have degrees in economics and mathematics and first started reading the House of Rothschild Vol.1 as a borrowed book from the library. After re-reading the House of Rothschild for the third time I decided it was time to buy my own hardcover edition, which I did. This is an uncanny and remarkably descriptive book on the incredible depth of economic understanding that the Rothschild Family exhibits and applies to the real world. The author Niall Ferguson has a refined style of writing so even long descriptions of various political and economic situations are interesting and entertaining. I also enjoyed the highlights of Rothschild wit, as for example beckoning a high ranking nobleman to, when Nathaniel was too busy to look up from his desk and had offered him a chair, to take TWO chairs when the nobleman felt slighted, I love this story. I am now reading Vol 2 and it so far has the same high caliber style of writing and depth, thanks Niall for writing these great books.

This books greatest strength is also its most formidable challenge; it doesn't miss a thing.

I am a huge fan of Niall Ferguson, both as an author and a historian, but in this book his attention to detail is, at times, too much. On some occasions during reading this book I lost site of the whole Rothschild story as an entity because I was drowning in detail I found unnecessary.

That being said, for those of you who want a TRUE historical record of the rise of this financial dynasty from the beginning, free from the myths which have become part of popular financial history, then this book is a must read.

About the Author

So thorough

This is such a thorough treatment of the subject that I left with very few unanswered questions. Some of those questions have to do with modern demon posession, which he touches on, but not deeply.

Unger grounds his study deeply in the Old and New Testaments giving us a breadth and depth of insight on the war going on behind the scenes since the Fall. If the bible does not cover the topic it is not in this book, and I love that. Far too often sensationalists write to solve problems and address situations using scripture that does not apply. The only weakness I find with this great resource is its dispensational presuppositions concerning the Last Days, but that is a small thing. Over all this is a book that would benefit every Christian.

Excellent scholarly work.

Biblical Demonology deals with a topic so rife in our culture, yet neglected by pastors the world over. Ask the average church-going individual if a Christian can be possessed and count how many different answers you get. Ask the average missionary if they have ever encountered demonic forces. You'd be amazed at the disparity! And yet few authors tackle the subject with such scholarly attention. This is by far the best book I have ever read on the topic of demonology. There is little substance not backed with references for further study. Unger's work is a great addition to any pastor's library. It answers questions raised by society. Great for dealing with those "Paranormal Activity" buffs. Great read!
