Mit zahlreichen Anwendungen und Themengebieten, die gemeinsam mit dem Leser erarbeitet werden, durchstreifen die Autoren verschiedene Bereiche der Informatik. Am Ende jedes Kapitels werden die behandelten Themen mit Übungsaufgaben gefestigt. Durch die vorhandenen Lösungen am Ende des Buches wird ein Selbststudium ermöglicht. So easy a caveman could do it!

This book features very concise coverage of Haskell, including its roots in lambda calculus. The examples are well chosen. They are either minimalistic (least amount of code necessary to explain a concept), or doubly educational (demonstrating not only Haskell, but elements of mathematics and computer science).
I especially like the lambda calculus interpreter (which shows parsing, and the art of crafting an interpreter). The numerous examples of sorting algorithms are excellent (the list of which can be seen by electronically looking inside this book at the table of contents).
The caveman comics are a hoot! They add a lot to the charm of this delightful little book.
The important topic of monads is very well presented.
Note that the code examples are in Hugs. (I would have preferred to see the examples in GHCi; but that's really a nit because the code examples are so nicely done, and are highlighted in shaded boxes to provide a visual cue to the reader.)
If you don't speak German, don't let that stop you from getting this book. I don't know German, but I can easily infer the gist of what's going on via linguistic inference based on the context. (If you know the domain, you'll easily recognize the technical words as being only slightly different from their English counterparts. English is linguistically closer to German than to French.) Moreover, code (like origami diagrams) is universal.
I hope Amazon will feature more Haskell (and other technical) books from around the world in order to make them more accessible. Good books are wherever you happen to find them, and they aren't all in English!
Conclusion: highly recommended. Functional programming enthusiasts might well consider this a "must have".
