Does Its Job

Think of this not as a book but as that comprehensive compilation of notes that you wished you had time to put together. As a data warehouse practitioner, I can certainly opine that the material collected here reflects the author's diligence in putting them together and does comprehensively cover all the important foundational ground related to the subject of modern (as of 2013) database concepts. You will see several concepts being discussed multiple times (such as OLAP), or more confusingly, being defined and redefined several times in the same section. Your satisfaction thus depends on adopting the right expectation that this writing is an excellent resource for interview preparation and keeping up-to-date with latest database trends and concepts, but forgiving a certain lack of polish and tighter editing that accompanies your typical technical book.

When Powers wrote this he was still in apology mode. I certainly don't think he had anything to be sorry about. He got shot out of the sky by a Russian missile and did hard time in a Soviet max joint. Would anyone of us handled it better than he did. Here is the big issue he doesn't really confront. Lee Harvey Oswald knew the exact altitude of the U2 flights and the CIA knew Oswald had defected to Russia in 1959. Yet in 1960 the agency decided to send Powers on a full border to border overflight. The first one ever! Either they knew Oswald was on our side the whole time or ...... they wanted to make sure Powers got shot down. Which was it.

The Third Point

With respect to the "Cold War" we usually know the official versions from both the government of the USA and of the USSR. Powers book is extremely interesting because it gives you a private account of somebody that was deeply involved in the U-2 Cold War incident: a third point of view. A point of view that has no "agenda" to push through.
Powers description of his life in prison had for me an almost spiritual meaning. After reading what he went through, I felt grateful for what I have. He mentions, for example, that in prison work is cherished: he and his cell mate fought to have the privilege of cleaning their cell.
On the other hand, his actual experience in jail was very different from what you see in the movies. There was no violence, no torture, no conspiracy to escape. In almost two years he had a chance to speak with only one other prisoner: his cell mate. It was the most boring experience imaginable, so much so that some prisoners lost their minds.
It is difficult not to feel contempt for Dwight Eisenhower who after ordering the flight completely abandoned Powers to his fate. Eisenhower cared much more for his "prestige" than for any person but in the end his prestige went down the drain anyway when his involvement in the U-2 affair was finally known.
Another player that has dramatically dropped in stature for me is Robert Kennedy. His callousness is hard to believe. After all the suffering Powers went through in the USSR for doing his duty for the CIA, R. Kennedy was willing to try him for treason with the only purpose of advancing his political career! The politics surrounding this event are sickening: JFK had invited Powers to meet him at the White House but at the last moment the offer was withdrawn.
In the end, no president or high level politician did anything to obtain Powers'release from the USSR. It was his father whom he had to thank for his release.
Obviously, the CIA did not want this book to be published and 8 years had to pass before it finally saw the light.
I fully recommend the book as it gives you an insight as to how history is really made by real people, in real places, performing real duties.

I have been waiting to see what would happen with Tate and Isabelle and this was a great follow-up to that story

This story is a continuation of Texas Heat. I have been waiting to see what would happen with Tate and Isabelle and this was a great follow-up to that story. Tate being part of the Blake family definitely was a great call and showing that he "fits" in completely while remaining a stand out personality was one of my favorite parts of the story. This story definitely increased the interaction with the parents and their children. In my opinion, it makes for better character development when we see that interaction along with the love story.

Tate and Isabelle are one of my favorite pairings. I love that they appear opposites in personality, but in reality, they are such a great fit for each other. Both have similar stories in their background that provides a level playing field for them to start and from there this author has written a story that is believable and has characters that makes you want to know more and more about them. I would love to know more about Tate & Isabelle's story. As they continue growing it would be great to see them expand their characters within this family of stories.

Finally Izzy and Tate's Story

After Book 7 I must say I ma very pleased I just love Isabelle and Tate's story they love has been evolving since they were introduced in Texas Heat. Unlike Slow Heat, Isabella and Tate have a part one and now this book is part two. There love story is simply wonderful just as Ms. Laurel did with reigning characters of the series Morgan and Seth. Ms. Laurel writes so fully that even if you haven't been reading the series you could read this one and enjoy it and still follow what's happening with this family. This is a wonderful family and I look forward to reading more of their romances and of course expanding families. Ms. Laurel gives you just the right amount of sexy, totally sensual love scenes and plenty of caring and hot men to enjoy. Izzy and Tate are just so good together that I would encourage you to read their first story Texas Heat the Blake's are an amazing family. This is a great beach summer read!

My goodness Rhonda please write about another family similar to the Blakes. I have really enjoyed Tate and Isabelle's story.

Isabelle is sweet, beautiful, kind but also strong. She is just the kind of woman Tate needed... someone who believes in him. This book focused on female spouses of the Blake men. I love the relationship these woman have with each other and the love they have for their husbands and in laws.

I must admit this book had me laughing at "The Naughy Nerds". I refuse to spoil the fun by giving out information. It is so refreshing to see the family grow with love, marriage and babies being born.

Tate and Isabelle have such a strong sweet love and nothing can come between them.

I refuse to give all the plots and daily crises away. I highly recommend that you read this book. However start with volume one to completely understand. The series is written as a saga.
