About the Author

Michael Alexiades is a New York City orthopedic surgeon at Hospital for Special Surgery and a professor and past Overseer at Weill Cornell Medical College. He is Director of New York’s Finest Foundation, Chair of the NYPD Article II Medical Board, Chief Surgeon for the NY State Troopers Association, Fitness Chair at The New York Athletic Club, and an Examiner for the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. Awesome Book!

This is the author's first book, and what a great one. From the first chapter it is a page-turner. The character development quickly gets you invested in each one and you really want to know what happens to them. Also, the chapters are nice and short, which got me telling myself "just one more chapter before bed" over and over.

Being a physician, I found myself comparing many of the characters to ones that I know in real life. Though obviously a fictional book, the medical descriptions and characters bring an eerie realism that I rarely get from most other medically-based fiction books, movies or TV shows and I was able to maintain the suspension of disbelief, which is quire rare.

In all, a fantastic read that will keep you entertained and on the edge of your seat. I look forward to reading his next book.

This book was okay but obviously the author is not an English language scholar since his sentence construction is horrible and he doesn't seem to know the proper use of the the english language.
It was not a page turner. I keep it in my car and read it when time permits.

Excellent Intellectual Thriller

Riveting read - it was difficult to put down.

The novel is well written, reads fluidly, and continues to surprise. The tale of dedicated Demetri Makropolis is relatable, a hard-working young man searching for success in a competitive world. But don't get me wrong his story is very unique.

Academia collides with horror to cultivate an exhilarating story that sparks the imagination. If you're looking for an exciting read that will keep you captivated, "Night Harvest" is your answer. I still can't get over some of the author's writing techniques, well done.

A gentle Halloween thrill

We first meet the Scary Snorklum as he's on his way home, and his whiskers begin to wibble in a worried sort of way because he's late getting there. But on the way, he spies a Mole and his tummy tells him that a Mole sandwich would be very yummy. So he picks up Mole and informs him that he is the Scary Snorklum and he's going to have him for a sandwich. Mole is surprisingly tranquil about this news, especially for one who is being held by his tail by something that is easily ten times his size. Perhaps Mole is aware of the dictum that every declaration of strength is an admission of weakness. In any case, he notices the Snorklum's wibbling whiskers and challenges the Snorklum on it. The Snorklum, of course, denies any such thing. Scary Snorklums don't get worried. He puts Mole in his pocket to eat later.

Similar encounters occur with a Rabbit and a Badger. Snorklum is getting more nervous. And his potential meals notice it. Once he's outnumbered three to one, the poor, definitely nervous Snorklum is also out-maneuvered. Badger, Rabbit and Mole challenge the Snorklum to prove that he really is a Scary Snorklum. Unfortunately for him, he does prove it, but only by his own undoing.

This was a nice Halloween story. It's the perfect blend of creepy but not-so creepy and ultimately funny. Both my girls (ages almost 3 and almost 5) really enjoyed it, especially the ending. It especially helps if you read it with differing voices, especially for the Snorklum. The illustrations are also well-done - evocative of a mellow fall evening, again without being too scary.

Recommended for ages three and up. 4.5 stars.

Sometimes I automatically "get" what he is saying, and at other times, it takes a few re-readings for it to sink in. Love, love, love the way he thinks. I highly recommend both of his books. Gah! I had no idea he had a second book out. I just sent it over to my wife for this year's Christmas gift, and asked that she buy it ASAP to make sure that I got a copy. His last book is a must read... in my opinion he is the greatest contemporary poet alive. Do yourself a favor and get this book. I will update the review after I have a chance to read the book a few dozen times.

Great reference for writers

With the errors in the book noted by the other reviewer here aside, this is an excellent, brief and colorful reference book for the writer or student who needs a tidy overview of the title topic. I do wish it went into more detail; for example, what KIND of wagons? How large? Covered or open? Were seats built into them, or onto the front end of them? What kind of "trap" technology made it possible to hitch the animal to the wagon? Sometimes I think research books are written with too much assumption that the audience knows the basics. For city slickers (like myself) however, even current hitching methods would be news. So I wish these research books had more detail of that nature. But again, for a good overview, you can't go wrong with this book.

How to get a B- on an A+ research paper

Fiona MacDonald has done her usual wonderful job of presenting historical material in a balanced and interesting way to middle school students. The text of "Travel and Trade in the Middle Ages" is engaging from the first page to the last, and the numerous illustrations have been very carefully chosen. This is a real winner - until you get to page 37.

Perhaps the publisher changed editors at the very last minute. Maybe the book was late to the printers. At any rate, on page 37 a caption to an illustration describes the piece as containing a skull to "remind both of their eventual deaths." A nice flight of fancy - but there is no skull in the picture, just a little white dog asleep on a cushion at his mistress' feet. On page 40 you will find another lovely old illustration, together with a caption telling the reader that it shows a "jeweler, a herbalist and a baker (left to right)." Perhaps that is the case, if you eliminate the butcher very clearly carving up a pig, but the far right portion of the picture shows only a man with his hand in a bowl. Nothing of any sort at all to indicate a baker.

One particularly nice feature of "Travel and Trade..." is the inclusion of short quotations from Middle Ages authors every couple of pages, duly footnoted and cited in the back of the book. Wonderful - until page 40. The footnote to the quotation of page 40 is numbered 21. So is the quotation on page 38. The last two quotations are noted as 24 and 25; 22 and 23 are missing from the text. The bibliography, however, contains citations for 22 and 23, but not 24 and 25 - and of course only one 21, leaving the reader to guess which quotation 21 it belongs to.

I am left to conclude only that the person responsible for editing this book suddenly went blind, turning what might have been an A+ book into one that deserves only a B-.

Henry gives away the recipe for rapid growth for experts' business!

I am not an unbiased reader of Henry's book. He and I co-authored "How to Close a Deal Like Warren Buffett" and he has been my editor on two other books. His contributions and insights on this topic in my own business have resulted in millions of dollars in revenue to my consulting company. I would not have to read the book to know that he is a master at this topic- I watched it work in my business. I what I love about this book is the step by step approach he takes at laying out is approach and experience. Any expert in his or her field can use this straightforward methodology to build a marketing model for building their business rapidly and 10-fold! There are lots of "fast path to riches" books on the market- but Henry's book is not an idle claim with a few anecdotes. It is a road map with GPS coordinates to making your business explode!

Very lucid and practical ebook!

I bought this because I wanted to backtest timing strategies with Excel and I am not disappointed! This ebook is very well written and full of great practical tips for the first-time backtester. The models are simple (no multi-asset models, simply models for timing individual assets like ETFs based on moving averages of all sorts), but the text is very lucid and well organized. The author shows that he is really experienced with backtesting and trading, so this is not just theory.

I really enjoyed this book and read it out in one flow. The only remark I have is that if you are just want to read this book for its practical tips (like me) without doing the test yourselves with Excel simultaneously, you might be distracted by all the references to Excel. The accompanying Excel sheet itself looks like a great tool, however, so I recommend playing with it.

Finally, given its low price and valuable contents, this is a great buy!

A real great job

Very very good backtesting method for as far i can tell now. Amazing job for only 10 bucks. It feels like charity :)

I wonder why i used Metastock before which was totally crap and expensive for backtesting. This does it all. Though you still should do some programming in excel with your own formula's but the hardest part is done. Thanks a lot for this treat.

Worth Every Cent - Excellent Backtesting System

The book and the accompanying spreadsheets definitely over-deliver. Whilst the backtesting system is easily useable by a complete beginner, it caters for more advanced users as well.

I liked the fact that you can add your own technical indicators as well. It was really easy to add columns with the Average True Range, Donchian Channels, etc.

Patrick also has a Youtube channel with videos further explaining the use of his backtesting system.

I like the fact that it runs on Excel rather than proprietary software. It was easy to adapt the macros to my backtesting system.

The only caveat is that it won't run on Excel for Mac (the VBA macro language doesn't have complete functionality). I got it running by using Excel for Windows running within Crossover.

About the Author
David F. Bjorklund is Professor of Psychology at Florida Atlantic University, where he has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in developmental psychology since 1976. He received a B.A. degree in psychology from the University of Massachusetts in 1971, an M.A. degree in psychology from the University of Dayton in 1973, and a Ph.D. degree in developmental psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1976. He has received numerous teaching and research awards from Florida Atlantic University, and is the recipient of an Alexander von Humboldt Research Award. He has co-authored several books. Bjorklund has served as Associate Editor of CHILD DEVELOPMENT, published by the Society for Research in Child Development, has served on the editorial boards of DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY, DEVELOPMENTAL REVIEW, COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT, EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY REVIEW, JOURNAL OF COMPARATIVE PSYCHOLOGY, JOURNAL OF COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT, JOURNAL OF EXPERIMENTAL CHILD PSYCHOLOGY, and SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGY QUARTERLY, and has served as a contributing editor to PARENTS MAGAZINE. What can you expect when someone is so unimaginative as to copy the title of a bestseller probably wishing that some people will make a mistake. Do not be confused this is NOT Bob Sutton's book "Good Boss, Bad Boss: How to Be the Best... and Learn from the Worst". If you want to learn only from the worst then buy it.

Are the author and her publisher unaware that Bob Sutton wrote a best-seller entitled "Good Boss, Bad Boss - How to Be the Best...and Learn from the Worst" last year? I would hope that this was an honest mistake, and not an attempt to ride the coattails of Professor Sutton's excellent work.

The truth will make you thin.

I highly recommend Dr. Fitzgerald's book. Two years ago I bought in to the eat more to increase your metabolism idea and it wasn't a pleasant experience. I did lose weight that way but I ate only healthy food and I worked out religiously. After 4 months I lost 70 lbs. but the obsession with eating was a big problem. I slowly gained some of the weight back when I couldn't handle the 4 to 6 meals a day system. Since discovering FAT LOSS THE TRUTH I have finally found the answers I need and this system works GREAT! I eat 2 meals a day, sometimes 3 and I am fasting every day for at least 15 hours, 8 of that is while sleeping. This is not difficult at all. I have lost 20 lbs in a month and I am only walking an hour every other day for exercise. My wife is also doing the fasting and eating plan and she has also lost 20 lbs. I don't have much more to add to that except to say thank you Dr. Fitzgerald for providing us all with the truth!

Eye opening and freeing

I have spent years eating the 5 to 6 small meals a day in order to lean out. There have been times when I have had success with this method and times when I have not. One thing that eating that way did for me though is make me food obsessed and terrified of getting hungry.

I bought Fat Loss: The Truth on a recommendation from a friend who was working one on one with John Fitzgerald. I was nervous to try his recommendations around fasting. It went counter to all that I have been working with for years. However, I tried it and I amazed how freeing it is. Once you get used to it (which really is a bit more mentally challenging than it is physically) its pretty damn easy. I am much happier now eating this way and seeing some good results.

The book itself is well written with personal stories and experience paired with scientific studies to back up the practical advise.

This book is well worth checking out for at least to have it challenge the conventional wisdom a bit and at the most it will bring you great results and free you up to do other things rather than think about food all the time.

The Truth!

I am a fan. As a female amateur MMA fighter, keeping trim is very important...it's also very hard when you love to eat and have a sweet tooth like me. I put this book to the test after I came back from a 6 week school. During that time of eating out every day and snacking throughout the day I put on 20 lbs even though I was exercising rigorously 3-4 times a week. When I got home I immediately implemented Dr. John's fasting techniques and within a month I had lost almost all of the 20lbs I had gained without being super strict or giving up anything I craved. My roommate was extremely jealous since she had paid $300 for a personal trainer, was on a VERY strict diet, aaaand had gained 2 pounds...my advice READ THIS BOOK! It is so simple, it will literally change you life. Thank you Dr. John!
